I started blogging more than 15 years ago, mostly to promote my martial arts style at first, and then just for the sake of it. I wanted to share my pictures and adventures with my family. Since then, my focus has shifted toward a more personal kind of blog, not only for the family but for anyone who wants to read what I write.
And since I started, I’ve used so many CMSs that I can’t recall them all: Joomla, ExpressionEngine (not sure if they’re still around? edit: They are ! and open source now !), Movable Type, WordPress for a while, Statamic, and GetKirby (I do like GetKirby, but PHP… not so much). I even used Tumblr and Svbtle.
But ever since I found Ghost, probably about a decade ago, I haven’t looked back. I tried, I really did. Astro went for a spin on my personal computer, as well as other headless CMSs. But come on! On what platform can you find native analytics, newsletter services with member management and Stripe integration if you choose to sell memberships, plus ActivityPub support so that you’re part of the Fediverse and can follow anybody right from your dashboard?
Ghost has been getting better and better each year for more than ten years… and it seems like it’s only going to get even better in the years to come. Oh, and did I forget to mention that it’s free if you self-host and open-source? Go ahead, tell me I’m wrong, you know you can’t. :-)
PS : Thanks to ghost you can now follow me at @jp@iamjp.fr directly on mastodon or other ActivityPub apps.
