Split ergonomic keyboard

So I decided to challenge myself a little bit and swap my Apple keyboard for a split ergonomic one—the ZSA Voyager. Yes, the one that looks like it belongs on a spaceship. I wanted a challenge, and oh boy… mission accomplished.

After typing for years on my Apple keyboard, switching to this thing feels like I’ve been teleported to an alien planet where letters are suggestions and my fingers have no idea what their job is anymore. I kept the AZERTY (French) layout to avoid total chaos, but even then it’s the biggest challenge my poor fingers—and my tiny, overheated brain—have faced in ages. Muscle memory is ruthless…

Supposedly, this keyboard is ergonomic and should make me type faster and more comfortably eventually. Meanwhile, I’m here typing like a medieval scribe who just learned what a letter is. I never had any discomfort with my Mac keyboard, and now I’ve gone from 60 wpm to a heroic 10 wpm. Basically snail-speed with ambition.

I practice every day for about thirty minutes using various typing apps, and I think it’s helping… maybe. But the real boss battle is key combinations—the ones I used to hit without thinking. Now every shortcut feels like I’m trying to perform a complex spell in a fantasy game. And coding with the ZSA? Haven’t even dared. Too scared. Maybe one day. Not today.

Now on the flip side, it gets me to use my thumbs a lot more, a finger usually used only for the space bar at least in my case. And my keyboard is now a cake I have layers upon layers... cause I only got 52 keys to play with... to be continued
